Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 to Drop Exclusively in New York City
Samsung announced Thurs morning that its newest Android tablet is actually slated for release next week, but initially only in New York, and only in one shop. The Galaxy Tabs 10.1 strikes the shelves in New York City’s Union Sq. Best Buy on June 8, exclusively available from the shop for over a week. The tablet won’t roll out in wider release until 10 days later, on Next month.

Initially available in the Wi-Fi only version, the brand new Galaxy Tab’s price is comparable to Apple’s iPad 2 Wi-Fi edition. Each costs $500 for 16 GB associated with storage, and $600 for the 32-GB model.

Verizon introduced there will also be a 4G edition of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 upon its LTE network, available for pre-order June 8. Though the company hasn’t given a ship date for 4G tablets pre-ordered that day, it’s interesting to think which Samsung will be the first to release a 4G-capable device.

Motorola’s Xoom - the main tablet for Android’s tablet-optimized Honeycomb operating-system - promised 4G online connectivity on Verizon’s network, but didn’t launch with it. Xoom proprietors are waiting in order to mail in their products for a 4G upgrade, though Motorola and Verizon wireless haven’t announced when the procedure will begin.

4G-enabled versions of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 cost $530 as well as $630 for the 16- and 32-GB versions, respectively.

The Universe Tab 10.1 enters the already-clogged tablet market with a listing of specs similar to other people. It’s powered by Nvidia’s dual-core Tegra Two processor, has front- as well as back-facing cameras, and as the name suggests a 10.1-inch show.

But with a svelte 8.6-mm waist, Samsung’s is currently the actual thinnest tablet offering from manufacturers, actually skinnier than the apple ipad 2’s 8.8 millimeters. And unlike a number of other products we’ve seen, the new tablet will ship with Android version 3.1 (Honeycomb). Currently, the actual Xoom is the only device running Android 3.1.
